Patricia Polacco’s Delightful Website

Polacco's girl clipart that i've colored in with ArtRage Pro.

For several years recently I worked the Children’s Desk at our local library. I was delighted this morning to run across a website of an author/illustrator, Patrica Polacco, with whom I am quite familiar….her work is extensive and the picture book collection at our library contains many of her titles, a few of which are in my personal list of top children’s books. Anyway, her website, while not flashy (which is a bit of a relief….I’ve visited several similar websites that were eyecandy with very little actual content), contains the most precious snippets of illustration from her books! And, to ice the cake, there is even clipart, such as the girl from “G is for Goat” that I’ve colored in here.

Beetles on the Brain

I made these beetle stencils for ArtRage eons ago and am surprised how much fun I’ve had with them…..I like the old-school university feel to them and will probably hunt down more of them to make soon. Not the sort of graphic you’d want just anywhere, but plenty funky.

They started out as scientific specimen photos shared at Wikicommons. Here is an example of using them in ArtRage with chalk for the fill-in and shading with a spraygun layer as well as the two stencils that you may use for whatever (just don’t claim you made them yourself).
